Kumba: I know you live in Canada, but you can you tell me what it's really like to live there? Also, in your area, I don't think there are many coasters. Am I wrong? And, have you ever been to parks in the US or elsewhere?
Toon Towner: Canada is a great place to live; probably not that much different than the U.S., though we don't have the same kind of rah-rah patriotism. I love it here despite the cold winters (especially in Saskatchewan where I live). As for parks in my area, Calgary has a small one that is about 6 hours from where I live with a small corkscrew coaster. Other than that there really isn't much near me. I was at Disneyland when I was a kid, but haven't really been to any theme parks since. We're planning on taking our son somewhere soon though.
Kumba: I know you own an Italian restaurant. Could you please tell us what it is like: food, atmosphere, etc?
Toon Towner: My restaurant is a pretty casual place to dine. Nice warm atmosphere and I have the best staff I could hope for. The food is Italian, but no pizza; mostly a pasta house.
Kumba: You're probably the best scenery maker in the world. What do you use to make scenery and what future scenery projects can you tell us about?
Toon Towner: Thanks for the props. Most of my scenery is adapted from existing RCT2 scenery. I find it keeps the atmosphere of the game a little better. I tend to focus on architectural objects as to me these have the most versatility and allow for the creativity of the parkmakers to dictate their uses. As for scenery projects, I really don't have anything big on the go. I'm focusing on parkmaking for a while so most of the stuff I make will be for my personal use in my IOA park or the project Kai and I are working on.
Kumba: How did you feel when Gila won the NE: RCT2 Challenge? Is there anything that you wish you could have done over in the park?
Toon Towner: Of course I was thrilled to win; though I knew it was a good project. The idea was to move RCT2 away from LL and show what could be done by using 1/4 tile architectural pieces. I'm extremely proud to have pioneered that aspect of the game and consider it the biggest RCT2 epiphany so far. The only thing I wish was that I had perhaps completed the whole park as a mini-park as the map would have been much better.
Kumba: How did you feel when Centurion won Survivor? Is there anything that you wish you could have done over in the park?
Toon Towner: Centurion was really my first RCT2 project. I was happy with it and it definitely helped define my style, but it is far from perfect due to the limited scenery available in the Survivor bench, but more because of the very limited time period to complete the park. I forget exactly how long, but it was only 3 to 5 days for the whole mini. Nonetheless, it's always nice to win.
Kumba: I've heard rumors that you may lead an NE Scenery Team. Is this true and, if so, how will it be set up?
Toon Towner: Well, at least there is a forum for scenery now. I will take responsibility for not getting this together as it was supposed to be my baby. Basically, the idea is on the backburner for now, but you never know when it might pop up again.
Kumba: I know you did the workbench for the High Rollers Contest and judged. Is there anything you can say about this contest after having judged it?
Toon Towner: I was completely blown away by the quality of parks submitted. It made judging extremely difficult, but was also a pleasure to look at such great work.
Kumba: Do you still play RCT1? If so, can you tell us what you might have in the works?
Toon Towner: Yes. The game offers challenges that RCT2 doesn't. Right now I am working on the NE LOS map and am pleased to announce that my MGM park has been salvaged off the scrap heap and will be finished (due to a little pressure from some fellow parkmakers).
Kumba: Your IOA Park is looking fantastic. What other tricks do you have up your sleeve in this park and what do you think it might end up being named?
Toon Towner: Top Secret...sorry. ;)
Kumba: In your opinion, who would you say are the top ten parkmakers for RCT1 and also for RCT2?
Toon Towner: I hate lists, but I'll give you my favourite parkmaker in for each game. LL = Coaster Ed and RCT2 = SAC. There are lots of other great ones, but these are the two I get most of my inspiration from.
